Loving God above All Things
God calls us to give Him first place in our lives because only He can completely satisfy our hearts.
Reflection
The greatest commandment Jesus taught reveals the center of the entire spiritual life: loving God with our whole being. This means God does not seek only part of our attention or specific moments of worship, but a relationship in which our whole heart belongs to Him. Loving God above all things means recognizing that He is more valuable than any possession, achievement, relationship, or personal desire. Many times, our hearts are divided among different priorities, and we allow other things to occupy the place that belongs only to God. Yet when God occupies first place, everything else begins to find its proper order. True love for God is not limited to emotions or words, but is expressed through obedience, trust, and a life surrendered to His will. Jesus showed this perfect love by living completely yielded to the Father and fulfilling His purpose all the way to the cross. When we love God with our whole being, our way of thinking, deciding, and acting begins to be transformed. We no longer live only in pursuit of our own satisfaction, but with the desire to honor the One who created us and loved us first.
Practical application
Examine what is occupying first place in your heart today and surrender it again to God.
Prayer
Beloved Father, thank You because You are worthy to receive all my love and surrender. Forgive me for the times I have allowed other things to occupy the place that belongs only to You. Help me love You with all my heart, all my mind, and all my strength. May my priorities be transformed by Your presence, and may my life reflect that You are my greatest treasure. Teach me to seek You above everything and to find in You the true satisfaction my soul needs. Amen.
