Loving Because He First Loved Us

5 min read
1 John 4:19

The love we receive from God is not meant to remain only in our hearts; it is intended to transform the way we love others.

Reflection

The ability to truly love begins when we first understand the love God has shown us. Many times, we try to love through our own strength, but human love can become exhausted, wounded, or conditional. When we experience God’s grace, we receive a new source of love that enables us to forgive, serve, and show compassion even when it is difficult. Loving others is not simply a Christian obligation; it is the natural response of a heart that has been reached by the Father’s love.

Practical application

Each day, look for an opportunity to demonstrate God’s love to someone through a specific action.

Prayer

Beloved Father, thank You because Your love reached me first, when I still did not fully understand Your grace. Transform my heart so that I can love as You love, with patience, mercy, and generosity. Help me leave behind selfishness, pride, and the wounds that keep me from fully loving those You have placed around me. May my life be a reflection of the love I have received from You. Amen.

To reflect on

Can the people around me see God’s love reflected in the way I treat them?
