Conformed to the Image of Christ

5 min read
Romans 8:29

God does not merely want to change a few areas of our lives; His purpose is to form the character of Christ within us.

Reflection

The Christian life does not consist only of receiving forgiveness and waiting for eternity; it is also a process of transformation in which God makes us more like Jesus. Many times, we think spiritual maturity means knowing more or doing more religious activities, but true transformation occurs when our character begins to reflect Christ’s. God uses His Word, His Spirit, our relationships, and even our difficulties to shape us. Jesus showed love when He was rejected, humility when He possessed all authority, and obedience even when the road was difficult. He is the perfect model into whose likeness God is forming us. This process does not happen overnight, but each day the Lord works in our hearts to replace pride with humility, fear with trust, and selfishness with love.

Practical application

Identify one characteristic of Christ you would like to see reflected more clearly in your life and ask God to form it within you.

Prayer

Beloved Father, thank You because Your purpose for my life is much greater than simply changing my circumstances; You want to transform my heart so that I become more like Christ. Help me embrace the process through which You shape my character and allow You to work in the areas that still need to be surrendered to You. May my words, attitudes, and decisions reflect more of the love and humility of Jesus each day. Amen.

To reflect on

Am I seeking only for God to change my circumstances, or am I allowing Him to transform my character into the image of Christ?
