Growing in Grace

God’s grace is not only the beginning of our salvation; it is also the foundation upon which we grow and mature spiritually.

Reflection

The Christian life begins by grace and continues sustained by grace. Many times, we understand grace only as the forgiveness we receive when we come to Christ, but the Bible shows that God’s grace accompanies us throughout our entire journey. Peter encourages believers to grow in grace and in the knowledge of Jesus, showing that spiritual maturity consists of knowing Christ more deeply and allowing His work to transform our lives. Growing in grace means learning to depend more on God, abandoning confidence in our own merit, and allowing His love to shape our character. It is not about striving to earn something God has already given us, but responding to His love by growing in obedience, humility, and fellowship with Him. As we understand Christ’s grace more deeply, our hearts change: we become more patient with others, more humble in recognizing our own weaknesses, and more grateful for the mercy we have received. Grace does not leave us unchanged; it enables us to live a life that reflects the One who saved us. This growth is an ongoing process in which God continues forming the character of Jesus within us until He completes His work.

Examine an area of your life in which you need to depend more on God’s grace and ask Him to continue forming Christ within you.

Prayer

Beloved Father, thank You because Your grace not only reached me to save me, but also sustains me each day. Help me grow in the knowledge of Christ and depend less on my own strength. Teach me to live from the security of Your love, not from the need to prove my worth. Form humility, obedience, and a grateful heart within me. May every season of my life be an opportunity to experience Your grace more deeply and reflect Your character to those around me. Amen.
