God's Authority

Christ Has All Authority

5 min read
Matthew 28:18

Jesus is not only our Savior; He is also the Lord who has absolute authority over all creation.

Reflection

Before ascending to heaven, Jesus declared a fundamental truth to His disciples: all authority had been given to Him. This statement reveals that Christ does not possess limited or temporary authority, but complete dominion over everything visible and invisible. During His earthly ministry, He demonstrated this authority by healing sickness, forgiving sins, calming storms, and defeating death. Yet many times, believers accept Jesus as Savior while struggling to completely surrender the government of their lives to Him. Recognizing Christ’s authority means allowing Him to direct our decisions, thoughts, plans, and priorities. His authority never seeks to take away our freedom, but to lead us into the purpose for which we were created. When Christ occupies His rightful place in our lives, we find direction, security, and true peace.

Practical application

Examine an area of your life where you need to recognize Christ’s lordship more fully and surrender it to Him.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that all authority belongs to You. Forgive me for the times I have tried to direct my own life without seeking Your will. Help me surrender my plans, decisions, and desires before You. May Your authority govern my heart, and may I live each day as a true disciple who trusts Your direction. Thank You because Your rule is filled with love, wisdom, and purpose. Amen.

To reflect on

Am I allowing Christ to have authority over every area of my life, or only over some of them?
