When I Feel That God Is Far Away

5 min read
Psalm 13:1

God understands our moments of pain and doubt and invites us to draw near to Him even when we feel He is far away.

Reflection

In the spiritual life, there are moments when we may feel that God is distant or that our prayers are unanswered. The psalmist expressed this feeling honestly by asking God how long he would have to wait. These words show that God does not reject our emotions or questions; He allows us to come into His presence with an honest heart. Feeling that God is far away does not mean He truly is. Many times, in the midst of silence or waiting, He continues working in ways we cannot yet understand. Mature faith does not consist of always feeling God’s presence, but of continuing to trust Him even when our emotions say otherwise. God remains faithful in silent seasons and invites us to seek Him with perseverance, remembering all He has already done in our lives.

Practical application

Reflect today on the moments when you have felt God was distant and remember that His presence remains even when your emotions change.

Prayer

Beloved Father, thank You because You hear my heart even when I walk through seasons of doubt, sadness, or silence. When I feel that You are far away, help me remember that Your love remains and Your promises never change. Strengthen my faith to keep seeking You even when I do not see immediate answers. Teach me to trust Your presence beyond my emotions and to rest in the assurance that You never abandon me. Amen.

To reflect on

Am I confusing God’s silence with His absence, or am I learning to trust Him even when I cannot see Him?
