God Is Near to the Afflicted

5 min read
Psalm 34:18

God remains near to those going through pain, sadness, or affliction, bringing comfort and strength to their hearts.

Reflection

Affliction is a reality of life that can come through loss, difficulty, disappointment, or situations that seem greater than our strength. In those moments, we may feel alone or think God is distant, but the Bible reminds us of a powerful truth: the Lord is near to the brokenhearted. God does not ignore our pain or despise our tears; He draws near with compassion and love to sustain us. His presence does not always immediately change our circumstances, but it transforms the way we walk through difficult processes. When the heart is wounded, God offers comfort, hope, and the assurance that our story is in His hands. Faith does not mean denying pain, but recognizing that even in the midst of it, we have a near God who walks with us and strengthens us.

Practical application

Reflect today on the areas where you have experienced pain or affliction and remember that God is near to you through every process.

Prayer

Beloved Father, thank You because You are a near God and never abandon those who walk through difficult moments. Thank You because You know my wounds, tears, and burdens no one else can see. Help me sense Your presence in the midst of my struggles and trust that You are working even when I do not understand the process. Heal my heart, strengthen my spirit, and fill me with the hope that comes only from You. May I always remember that I do not walk alone and that Your love sustains me in every stage of life. Amen.

To reflect on

Am I seeking God’s presence in the midst of my affliction, or am I facing my burdens believing I am alone?
