The Love That Remains

5 min read
1 Corinthians 13:13

True love remains because it has its origin in God and reflects the eternal character of Christ in our lives.

Reflection

The Bible presents love as the greatest virtue because it reveals the very heart of God. Paul teaches that many things have value within the Christian life, but love holds a higher place because it remains even when other things come to an end. Gifts, knowledge, and human achievements are temporary, but the love that comes from God has eternal value. This love is not based only on changing emotions, but on a decision to seek the good of another person, remain faithful, and reflect the character of Christ. Jesus showed this love by giving Himself for us, remaining faithful even when He faced rejection, suffering, and the cross. As followers of Christ, we are called to develop a love that does not depend on convenience, but on the transformation God produces in our hearts. Abiding in love means allowing God to teach us to love with patience, forgiveness, and sacrifice. In a world where many relationships break easily, the love of Christ calls us to build bonds founded on grace and faithfulness. When God’s love governs our lives, our words, decisions, and relationships begin to reflect an eternal reality.

Practical application

Examine a relationship today in which you need to show a love more like Christ’s and take a specific action to reflect it.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You because Your love remains faithful even when I am weak and imperfect. Thank You because You loved me first and showed me a love that does not depend on circumstances. Help me receive Your love more deeply so I can share it with others. Remove impatience, selfishness, and unforgiveness from my heart. Form within me a love that remains, serves, and reflects Your character. May my relationships show the transformation Your love has produced in my life. Amen.

To reflect on

Does the way I love reflect the constant love of Christ, or does it depend too much on circumstances and how others treat me?
