Sacrificial Love in Marriage

5 min read
Ephesians 5:25

Sacrificial love in marriage reflects the love of Christ, who gave His life for us with humility and complete surrender.

Reflection

The Bible presents marital love from a perspective different from the world’s. It is not only about feelings or emotions, but a daily decision to love, serve, and seek the well-being of the other person. Paul compares a husband’s love for his wife with Christ’s love for the church, a love willing to give itself completely. This kind of love requires humility, patience, and a willingness to place the other person’s needs before one’s own. Marriage may include difficult moments, differences, and challenges, but sacrificial love enables a couple to face them with commitment and grace. When a couple learns to love by following Christ’s example, their relationship grows stronger and becomes a visible reflection of God’s love.

Practical application

Reflect today on how you are demonstrating love within marriage and consider how you can serve your spouse more with the same love Christ displayed.

Prayer

Beloved Father, thank You because You have shown us perfect love through Jesus Christ. Help me love within marriage with a heart willing to serve, forgive, and give my best. Remove selfishness, pride, and everything that makes it difficult to love as Christ loves. Strengthen marriages so they can reflect Your love, faithfulness, and grace. Teach us to seek the well-being of one another and build relationships founded on sincere surrender before You. Amen.

To reflect on

Am I loving within marriage while seeking my own benefit, or am I learning to love with the surrender and sacrifice Christ taught?
