Pride before a Fall
Pride can lead us away from God and into decisions that harm our lives, but humility keeps us under His direction and care.
Reflection
The Bible presents pride as one of the most dangerous attitudes of the human heart because it makes us believe we do not need correction or God’s direction. Proverbs warns that pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall. Pride often begins quietly: we stop listening to counsel, trust too much in our abilities, or believe our decisions are always right. Without realizing it, we may begin depending more on ourselves than on the Lord. Humility serves as spiritual protection because it keeps us aware of our need for God and open to His teaching. Recognizing our limitations is not weakness, but wisdom. When we allow God to form our character, we learn to walk prudently and avoid paths that can draw us away from His purpose.
Practical application
Reflect today on the areas where pride may be influencing your life and ask God to give you a humble and teachable heart.
Prayer
Beloved Father, thank You because Your Word guides me and shows me what can affect my relationship with You. Help me recognize every area of pride in my heart and teach me to walk humbly before You. Forgive me for the times I have trusted too much in my own abilities and stopped seeking Your direction. Form within me a teachable spirit, willing to receive correction and grow according to Your will. May my life remain founded on You, and may every decision reflect dependence on Your wisdom. Amen.
