Pride Steals Gratitude
Pride makes us forget that everything we have comes from God, while humility leads us to live with grateful hearts.
Reflection
One consequence of pride is that it can make us think our achievements, abilities, and blessings are only the result of our own effort. The Bible warned the people of Israel about the danger of forgetting God when they experienced prosperity. A proud heart attributes everything to itself, but a humble heart recognizes the Lord’s hand in every area of life. Gratitude is born when we understand that our lives, talents, opportunities, and provision are gifts from God. When we allow pride to govern us, we lose the ability to marvel at His blessings and begin living from self-sufficiency. Yet remembering God’s faithfulness helps us maintain an attitude of gratitude and dependence on Him. True gratitude does not depend on how much we have, but on recognizing the One who sustains and provides for us each day.
Practical application
Reflect today on the blessings God has placed in your life and ask whether you are recognizing His hand or attributing everything only to your own efforts.
Prayer
Beloved Father, thank You because everything I have and everything I am comes from You. Forgive me for the times I have allowed pride to make me forget Your goodness and provision. Help me live with a grateful heart that recognizes Your hand in every blessing. Teach me to depend on You and remember that my abilities and opportunities are gifts of Your grace. May my life reflect humility, gratitude, and continual praise toward You. Amen.
