Jesus, the Author of Faith

5 min read
Hebrews 12:2

Christ is the origin and goal of our faith; He begins our relationship with God and sustains us until His purpose is complete.

Reflection

The Christian faith is not based only on our ability to trust, but on a Person: Jesus Christ. Hebrews invites us to fix our eyes on Him because Jesus is the author and finisher of faith. This means our salvation begins by His grace and our perseverance depends on His faithfulness. Many times, we may feel that our faith is weak or insufficient, but the believer’s hope is not in the strength of their own faith, but in the greatness of the One in whom we have believed. Jesus Himself is our perfect example of trust and obedience to the Father, for He endured the cross while looking toward God’s eternal purpose. When we keep our eyes on Christ, we find strength to continue even in the midst of difficulties.

Practical application

Instead of focusing on the strength of your faith, focus today on the greatness and faithfulness of Jesus.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You because my hope does not depend on my own strength, but on Your perfect work within me. Help me keep my eyes fixed on You when I face difficulties, doubts, or spiritual weariness. Remind my heart that You are the One who began my faith and who will also bring it to completion. May my trust always remain centered on You. Amen.

To reflect on

Am I trusting more in my ability to believe, or in Jesus, who sustains and perfects my faith?
