Adversity Can Draw Us Closer to God

5 min read
Psalm 34:18

God can use difficult moments to draw us closer to Him and reveal His presence, love, and care.

Reflection

Adversity can be a season in which our hearts experience pain, uncertainty, and many questions. Yet it can also become a time when we learn to seek God more deeply. Many times, when our own strength is not enough, we discover a dependence on the Lord we may not have experienced before. The Bible reminds us that God is near to the brokenhearted and does not move away from us in suffering. Difficulties can change our priorities, teach us to pray more sincerely, and help us value God’s presence more deeply. Although we do not always understand the reason for every trial, we can trust that the Lord can use those moments to strengthen our relationship with Him and transform our inner lives.

Practical application

Reflect today on how the difficulties you have experienced have led you to seek God’s presence more deeply.

Prayer

Beloved Father, thank You because You remain near even when I walk through pain or difficulty. Help me not move away from You when I face trials, but seek Your presence with a humble and willing heart. Use every circumstance to strengthen my relationship with You and teach me to depend more on Your love and grace. Heal the areas of my heart that have been wounded and allow me to experience Your comfort even in adversity. May every process draw me closer to You and help me know You more deeply. Amen.

To reflect on

Am I allowing adversity to move me away from God, or am I letting it draw me closer to His presence?
