Communication in Marriage
Communication in marriage should be guided by love, truth, and the desire to build up the relationship.
Reflection
Communication is one of the most important pillars within marriage. A healthy relationship is not built through love alone, but also through the ability to express thoughts, feelings, and needs in a healthy way. The Bible teaches that our words should build others up, showing that what we say can strengthen or damage the relationship. Many marital difficulties do not arise from a lack of love, but from a lack of understanding, listening, and willingness to communicate. Good communication requires humility to listen, patience to respond, and love to seek the other person’s well-being. When a couple learns to communicate under God’s direction, they can face challenges more effectively and strengthen the trust that sustains their union. Christ should be the model for our conversations, teaching us to speak with grace and truth.
Practical application
Reflect today on how you communicate with your husband or wife and consider whether your words are building a stronger and closer relationship.
Prayer
Beloved Father, thank You for the blessing of marriage and the opportunity to share life with another person. Help me communicate with love, patience, and wisdom. Teach me to listen before responding, express my thoughts respectfully, and avoid words that may wound. Remove pride and hardness of heart from me, and allow my conversations to become instruments of unity and growth. May our marriage reflect Christ’s grace and love in every word and action. Amen.
