Humility in Marriage
Humility within marriage enables us to love, serve, and value our spouse by following Christ’s example.
Reflection
Humility is a foundational quality for building a strong and healthy marriage. Many difficulties in a relationship arise when pride takes the place of love and when we seek to be right instead of seeking unity. The Bible teaches us to consider others above ourselves and to look not only to our own interests, but also to the interests of others. Within marriage, humility is demonstrated by listening, acknowledging mistakes, asking forgiveness, and being willing to serve. Christ is the greatest example of humility because, although He was God, He took the position of a servant and gave His life in love. When both spouses allow God to transform their hearts, the marriage grows stronger because it stops being based on who has more authority and begins to be based on love and mutual service.
Practical application
Reflect today on the areas where pride may be affecting your marriage and ask God for a more humble heart willing to serve.
Prayer
Beloved Father, thank You because in Christ You have shown us the true meaning of humility and sacrificial love. Help me live within my marriage with a humble heart, willing to listen, serve, and acknowledge my mistakes. Remove pride, hardness, and everything that may create distance from my spouse. Teach me to love as Christ loved, always seeking unity and the well-being of the other person. May our marriage reflect Your character and grace. Amen.
