Christ’s Righteousness Is Credited to Us

Through Christ we receive a righteousness that does not come from our merit, but from the perfect work He accomplished on our behalf.

Justification reveals a wonderful exchange: Christ took our sin and allowed us to receive His righteousness. Paul explains that Jesus, though sinless, bore our condition so we could be reconciled to God. This means our acceptance before the Father is not based on our performance, effort, or ability to attain perfection, but on Christ’s perfect righteousness granted to us by grace. This truth transforms our identity because we stop viewing ourselves only through our mistakes and begin recognizing ourselves as people redeemed and accepted by God. Many times, we struggle with guilt or inadequacy because we focus on our failures, but the gospel reminds us that our standing before God depends on Christ and not on us. Christ’s credited righteousness does not lead us to live irresponsibly, but inspires us to respond with love, obedience, and gratitude. As we understand this grace, we find freedom to draw near to God with confidence and live a life that reflects His character.
