The Mother as a Teacher of Faith

5 min read
Deuteronomy 6:6-7

A mother has the opportunity to teach faith to her children through her words, example, and the way she lives before God.

Reflection

The spiritual formation of children begins primarily within the home, and a mother has a profound influence in that process. The Bible teaches that God’s commands should be continually passed on to new generations, showing the importance of intentionally teaching faith. A mother instructs not only when she speaks about God, but also when her children observe how she faces difficulty, loves others, and depends on the Lord. Spiritual teaching is built through daily conversations, moments of prayer, and a consistent example of life. Although children will make their own decisions, the seeds of faith planted in the home can accompany them throughout their lives. God can use a mother’s influence to form hearts that know and love His ways.

Practical application

Reflect today on the spiritual influence you are having in your children’s lives and consider what seeds of faith you are planting each day.

Prayer

Beloved Father, thank You because You allow a mother the privilege of influencing the spiritual lives of her children. Give me wisdom to teach Your Word with love and patience. Help my example remain consistent with what I teach, and may my children see in me a life that seeks Your presence. Guide my words, decisions, and every moment I share with them so they may know Your love and walk in Your ways. Amen.

To reflect on

Am I teaching faith to my children only through words, or also through the example of my own life?
