The New Nature Produces Fruit

The new life God produces within us begins to display a different character through the fruit produced by the Holy Spirit.

Reflection

When God gives us a new nature in Christ, He not only changes our position before Him, but also begins an inner transformation that affects the way we live. The presence of the Holy Spirit produces fruit that reflects the character of Jesus: love where there was selfishness, patience where there was impatience, and self-control where there were uncontrolled impulses. This fruit does not appear through sheer willpower, but through remaining united to God and allowing Him to work in our hearts. Spiritual growth is a process in which the Lord forms new attitudes and desires within us. Although we still face struggles, the evidence of the new nature is that we are no longer content to remain the same. There is a growing desire to please God and reflect Christ.

Examine which fruit of the Spirit you need God to develop more deeply in your life.

Prayer

Beloved Father, thank You because in Christ You gave me a new nature and because Your Holy Spirit is working within me. I recognize that many times my own weaknesses keep Your character from being fully reflected. Help me depend more on You and allow Your Spirit to produce love, patience, kindness, and self-control within me. May my life become a clearer expression of Christ living within me each day. Amen.
