The Parable of the Lost Coin

5 min read
Luke 15:10

The parable of the lost coin teaches us the value God gives every person and the joy that exists when someone returns to Him.

Reflection

In this parable, Jesus spoke of a woman who lost one of her ten coins, lit a lamp, swept the house, and searched carefully until she found it. When she found it, she called her friends to share her joy. Through this teaching, Jesus showed that every person has great value before God and that He lovingly seeks those who are far from Him. The lost coin could not find itself, but needed to be sought, displaying God’s initiative in drawing near to humanity. This parable reveals a compassionate heart and reminds us that repentance brings joy in heaven. It also invites us to value every person as God values them.

Practical application

Reflect today on the value God has given you and consider how you can show that same love to those who need to draw near to Him.

Prayer

Beloved Father, thank You because You have shown me that I have great value before You. Thank You because Your love seeks, restores, and draws me back to Your presence. Help me see others through Your eyes and have a heart willing to walk beside those who need to find hope in You. Remove indifference from me and allow me to reflect Your love and compassion toward others. May my life become an instrument that leads others to You. Amen.

To reflect on

Am I seeing people with the value God gives them, or am I allowing prejudice to keep me from showing His love?
