Stubbornness Draws Us Away from Wisdom
Stubbornness can lead us to trust only our own judgment, while humility enables us to receive wisdom and direction from God.
Reflection
Stubbornness is often born from excessive confidence in our own way of thinking. The Bible describes a fool as someone who considers their own way right and rejects counsel, while a wise person recognizes the need to learn. God has given us understanding and abilities, but He also reminds us that our perspective is limited and that we need His direction. A stubborn heart can lose opportunities for growth because it refuses to hear correction or consider other points of view. Spiritual wisdom begins when we recognize our need for God and remain open to His instruction. Through His Word, prayer, and the wise counsel of other believers, the Lord shapes our character and guides us along better paths. Humility does not make us less valuable, but better prepared to receive what God wants to teach us.
Practical application
Reflect today on your willingness to receive counsel and ask God to help you maintain a humble and teachable heart.
Prayer
Beloved Father, thank You because Your wisdom is perfect and because You desire to guide me along paths that are good for my life. Help me recognize when pride or stubbornness keeps me from learning. Give me humility to listen, wisdom to discern, and a heart willing to receive Your correction. Forgive me for the times I have trusted only in my own understanding. Teach me to walk under Your direction and always seek the wisdom that comes from You. Amen.
