Asking for Wisdom Is an Act of Humility

Recognizing that we need God’s wisdom is an expression of humility and dependence on Him.

Reflection

God does not expect us to have all the answers on our own. He Himself invites us to draw near and ask Him for wisdom. Yet to do so, we must first recognize that our abilities are limited and that we need His direction. Many times, pride makes us believe we can solve everything alone, make decisions without consulting God, and rely only on our experience. But true wisdom begins when we accept our need for Him. Solomon could have asked for riches or power, but he chose to ask for an understanding heart to govern God’s people. That request revealed humility and dependence. God is pleased when His children acknowledge that they need His guidance. Asking for wisdom is not a sign of weakness, but evidence of spiritual maturity. It is recognizing that the God who created all things also knows the best way to direct our lives.

Practical application

Before making an important decision, pause and ask God for wisdom, direction, and a heart willing to obey.

Prayer

Beloved Father, thank You because I do not have to walk depending only on my own understanding. Today I acknowledge my need for Your wisdom and ask You to guide my thoughts, decisions, and actions. Remove from me the pride that makes me trust only in my abilities, and form in me a humble heart that seeks Your direction. Teach me to hear Your voice and live according to Your ways. Amen.
