Forgiving Even When It Hurts
Forgiving in the midst of pain reflects Christ’s love and allows God to heal our hearts even in difficult situations.
Reflection
Forgiving can be one of the most difficult decisions when we have been deeply hurt. Yet Jesus showed us the greatest example of forgiveness when He asked the Father to forgive those who were crucifying Him. This does not mean pain does not exist or wounds are unimportant, but that forgiveness allows God to take control of what has hurt us. Sometimes we wait until we feel like forgiving, but often forgiveness begins as a decision of obedience and trust in God. When we forgive, we stop allowing the offense to govern our hearts and make room for the Lord to bring healing and peace. True forgiveness is not born from our own strength, but from the grace we have received from Christ.
Practical application
Reflect today on the situations where forgiveness seems difficult and ask God for strength to place that pain in His hands.
Prayer
Beloved Father, You know every wound and every situation that has caused pain in my heart. Help me forgive even when it is difficult. Give me the same grace Christ displayed at the cross and help me release what keeps me bound to the past. Heal my wounds, remove all resentment, and teach me to walk in freedom. May my life reflect Your love, and may I respond with grace even in the hardest moments. Amen.
