Temptation

Resist the Devil

5 min read
James 4:7

Victory over temptation begins when we submit to God and remain firm in His power.

Reflection

James presents a foundational principle for facing temptation: first we must submit to God, and then resist the enemy. Many times, we try to fight sin by depending only on our own strength, but true victory begins with a surrendered relationship with the Lord. Resisting does not mean trusting in our ability, but standing firm in God’s truth and rejecting whatever seeks to draw us away from Him. Temptation loses strength when our hearts are surrendered to Christ and our lives are guided by His Word. God does not call us to face spiritual struggles alone, but to depend on His power and authority. When we live close to Him, we find the strength we need to stand firm.

Practical application

Reflect today on what areas of your life need deeper surrender to God so you can resist temptation.

Prayer

Beloved Father, thank You because in You I find the strength to face temptation. Help me submit every area of my life to Your will before trying to fight through my own strength. Forgive me for the times I have trusted in myself and forgotten to depend on You. Strengthen my faith, guide me by Your Spirit, and help me remain firm in Your truth. May my life reflect complete dependence on Christ. Amen.

To reflect on

Am I resisting temptation from a life submitted to God, or am I trying to overcome it through my own strength?
