Clothed with the New Man
In Christ we receive a new nature and are called to live according to the identity God is forming within us.
Reflection
The Christian life involves a profound change of identity. Paul again uses the image of clothing to teach that those who belong to Christ must leave behind the characteristics of the old life and put on what reflects the new nature received from God. This does not mean our transformation is instantaneous or that we stop having struggles, but that there is now a new direction in our hearts. The Holy Spirit is working to renew the way we think, our attitudes, and the way we relate to others. Putting on the new man means allowing Christ to become visible in our lives through love, humility, patience, and obedience. Spiritual transformation is an ongoing process in which God leads us each day to become more like Jesus.
Practical application
Examine which aspect of your character needs to be transformed so that it reflects Christ more.
Prayer
Beloved Father, thank You because in Christ You gave me a new nature and a new identity. Help me leave behind what belongs to my old way of living and clothe myself each day with the character of Jesus. Form humility, love, and obedience within me. May my life reflect the work Your Spirit is carrying out, and may others see Christ through me. Amen.
