Clothed with the New Man
In Christ we receive a new identity and are called to live according to the new life God created within us.
Reflection
The Christian life does not consist only of leaving certain behaviors behind, but of experiencing a profound transformation of our identity. Paul uses the image of taking off an old garment and putting on a new one to explain what happens when we belong to Christ. The old man represents a life dominated by sin, selfish desires, and a way of living far from God. The new man represents the new reality we receive through Christ: a life renewed according to God’s character. This process requires a daily decision to abandon what does not reflect Jesus and allow God to form His righteousness, truth, and holiness within us. We do not change in order to become children of God; we change because we have already received a new identity in Him.
Practical application
Examine which aspects of your old way of living you need to surrender to God in order to walk in the new life Christ gave you.
Prayer
Beloved Father, thank You because in Christ You gave me a new identity. Help me leave behind everything that belongs to my old life and clothe myself each day with the character of Jesus. Form within me a life marked by truth, righteousness, and holiness. May people see in me the transformation Your grace is producing. Amen.
