The story of Zacchaeus shows that a genuine encounter with Jesus produces visible changes in the way we live. Before knowing Christ, Zacchaeus was known for dishonesty and taking advantage of others, but when Jesus entered his life, his heart was transformed. The restitution he chose to make was not merely an outward action, but evidence of inner transformation. God does not seek only to correct our behavior, but to change the deep motives of our hearts.
