The love God expects from us is reflected in the way we treat, serve, and value the people around us.
Jesus taught that after loving God, the second greatest commandment is to love our neighbor as ourselves. This teaching reveals that true spirituality cannot be separated from the way we relate to others. It is possible to know biblical principles and participate in religious activities, but if our hearts remain indifferent to the needs of those around us, we are far from God’s purpose. Loving our neighbor means recognizing that every person has value because they were created in God’s image. This love is expressed through specific actions: listening, forgiving, helping, serving, and showing compassion. Jesus did not merely speak about love; He demonstrated it by drawing near to the rejected, healing the wounded, and giving His life for us. Loving as Christ loves requires God to transform our hearts because many times, we prefer to love only those we like or those who benefit us. Yet God’s love calls us to move beyond our preferences and reflect His grace even toward those who are difficult to love. When we learn to love our neighbor, we show the world visible evidence of Christ’s work within us.
Look for a specific opportunity today to show love to someone through an action that reflects the heart of Christ.
Lord Jesus, thank You because You showed me true love through Your surrender and sacrifice. Help me love people as You love them and not limit my love only to those who think or act like me. Remove indifference, pride, and selfishness from my heart that keep me from serving others. Teach me to see the needs of those around me and respond with compassion, patience, and grace. May my life reflect Your love, and may others come to know You through the way I treat them. Amen.
