God’s Goodness Never Changes

God's Goodness · 5 min read

For the LORD {is} good; his mercy {is} everlasting; and his truth {endureth} to all generations. {to all...: Heb. to generation and generation}
Psalm 100:5

Introduction

The world is constantly changing. Circumstances change, people change, and even we change over time. Yet one truth remains firm forever: God’s goodness never changes.

Reflection

One of the believer’s greatest sources of security is knowing that God does not change. His character has remained perfect from eternity and will never be affected by circumstances. When the Bible declares that the Lord is good, it is not describing a temporary quality, but an essential part of who He is. Everything God does flows from His perfect goodness, even when we do not understand His ways. Many times, we measure God’s goodness according to what we experience. If things go well, we think God has been good; if difficulties come, we doubt His love. Yet Scripture teaches us that God’s goodness does not depend on our circumstances, but on His nature. He continues to be good when He answers our prayers and also when He asks us to wait. He was good when He created the world, when He sent His Son to save us, and He remains good as He guides every step of our lives. Remembering this truth strengthens our trust. We can rest knowing that everything God allows has a purpose filled with wisdom and love. Even what we do not understand today will be used by Him for our growth and for His glory.

Practical application

Make a list of five evidences of God’s goodness that you experienced this week and thank Him specifically for each one.

Prayer

Father, thank You because Your goodness never changes. Help me trust You even when I do not understand everything You allow in my life. May my eyes remain open to recognize each day the evidence of Your care and love. Help me remember that Your faithfulness remains even in the most difficult circumstances. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Am I evaluating God’s goodness by my circumstances or by what the Bible says about Him?
