Listening attentively before responding helps us communicate with wisdom, patience, and love toward others.
Good communication does not depend only on knowing how to express our ideas, but also on learning to listen. Many times, we respond quickly without fully understanding what the other person is trying to communicate. The Bible teaches us to be quick to listen and slow to speak, showing that listening requires humility and self-control. Listening before responding allows us to better understand the hearts of others, avoid misunderstandings, and build stronger relationships. In the family, marriage, church, and every relationship, a person who listens demonstrates love and respect. Jesus continually displayed this quality by approaching people with compassion and attention. When we learn to listen under God’s direction, our words can become wiser and our relationships healthier.
Reflect today on the way you listen to others and consider whether you are creating space to understand before expressing your own opinion.
Beloved Father, thank You because You listen to our prayers and know our hearts deeply. Help me develop an attitude of sincere listening toward those around me. Teach me to be patient, humble, and understanding before responding. Remove from me the need to speak first or impose my own ideas. May my conversations be guided by Your wisdom, and may the way I listen reflect Christ’s love toward others. Amen.
