The Cross Brings Forgiveness

Cross · 5 min read

In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
Ephesians 1:7

Introduction

Through the cross of Christ, we receive a forgiveness we could never attain through our own efforts.

Reflection

One of the heaviest burdens a person can carry is guilt. Many times, we try to compensate for our mistakes, prove that we can change, or find ways to feel accepted again. However, the cross of Christ reveals that God did not expect us to resolve our condition through our own strength. Jesus came to do what we could not do: pay the price of sin and open a path of reconciliation with God. The forgiveness Christ offers is not simply an opportunity to begin again; it is complete restoration founded on His perfect sacrifice. This does not mean our mistakes are unimportant, but that God’s grace is greater than our past. When we receive Christ’s forgiveness, we stop living defined by guilt and begin living from the freedom of those restored by God.

Practical application

Bring before God a guilt or mistake from your past today and remember that the cross of Christ is sufficient to forgive and restore.

Prayer

Beloved Father, thank You because through the cross of Christ I received the forgiveness I could never attain through my own merit. Help me leave behind the guilt You have already forgiven and live from the freedom of Your grace. Teach me also to forgive others with the same love with which You forgave me. May the work of Jesus on the cross completely transform the way I see myself and live. Amen.

For reflection
Am I living under the guilt of my past, or resting in the complete forgiveness Christ gave me?
