Hope › Devotionals › Dependence on God
Weakness is not always a sign of failure; often it is the place where we learn to depend on God more deeply.
Our culture teaches us to hide our weaknesses and prove that we are capable of solving everything by ourselves. We seek to be strong, independent, and in control of every situation. Yet God’s way is different. He does not limit Himself to working through our strengths; often He reveals His power precisely in the areas where we recognize our need. Paul experienced this truth when he asked God to remove what afflicted him, but received a different answer: God’s grace would be sufficient. The weakness did not immediately disappear, but the way Paul faced it changed. When we stop striving to prove that we can manage alone and learn to depend on the Lord, we discover a strength that does not come from us. God does not use perfect people; He uses surrendered hearts that recognize their need for Him.
Acknowledge before God a weakness or area where you need His help and surrender it to Him, trusting in His grace.
Beloved Father, thank You because You do not reject my weaknesses, but can work through them to draw me closer to You. Help me stop hiding the areas where I feel limited and teach me to depend on Your grace. When my strength is insufficient, remind me that Your power remains perfect. Form in me a humble heart that finds its security not in my abilities, but in Your presence and faithfulness. Amen.
