The Christian life requires us to put on Christ and stop feeding what strengthens sinful desires.
Paul uses the image of clothing to describe a daily transformation in the believer’s life. Just as a person puts on clothing, the Christian is called to put on the character of Christ and live according to their new identity. This involves leaving behind practices and desires that belong to the former way of life and allowing Jesus to govern our thoughts, decisions, and actions. The flesh looks for opportunities to satisfy selfish desires, but Christ calls us to a different life marked by love, purity, and obedience. Putting on Christ does not happen only once; it is a daily decision to depend on Him and reflect His character. When our lives are filled with Christ, we leave less room for what draws us away from His will.
Reflect today on what areas of your life need transformation so they may reflect Christ’s character more clearly.
Beloved Father, thank You because in Christ You have given me a new identity and a new way of living. Help me put on Your character each day and leave behind what feeds my wrong desires. Forgive me for the times I have allowed the flesh to govern my decisions. Form the character of Jesus within me and teach me to walk in obedience, love, and holiness. May my life increasingly reflect Your presence. Amen.
