Built Up in Christ

Edification · 5 min read

Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
Colossians 2:7

Introduction

A firm life must be built on Christ because only He can sustain our faith and give us a secure foundation.

Reflection

The Bible often uses the image of a building to describe spiritual life. Every structure needs a solid foundation because its stability depends on what it is built upon. In the same way, our lives need to be founded on Christ. Paul encouraged believers to be rooted and built up in Him, showing that spiritual growth begins with a deep relationship with Jesus. Many people try to build their lives on their abilities, achievements, relationships, or financial security, but those foundations can change and fail. Christ is the only foundation that remains firm in every circumstance. When our identity is in Him, we find stability even when we face difficulties because our confidence does not depend on what is happening around us. Being built up in Christ involves growing in His Word, remaining close to Him, and allowing Him to transform every area of our lives. A house is not built in a single day; it requires time, dedication, and a continual process. In the same way, God forms our character little by little as we walk with Christ. A life built on Jesus not only remains firm, but also becomes an influence that blesses others.

Practical application

Examine the foundations upon which you are building your life and surrender again to Christ the areas that need to come under His direction.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You because You are the firm foundation upon which I can build my life. Forgive me for the times I have tried to sustain myself through my own strength or through temporary things that cannot give me true security. Help me remain rooted in You, grow in Your Word, and allow You to transform every area of my heart. Strengthen my faith when difficulties come and remind me that my life is secure when it is built on You. May every decision and every step reflect that You are my foundation. Amen.

For reflection
Am I building my life primarily on Christ, or on temporary things that can change and fail?
