The Family and Faith in God

Family · 5 min read

And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. {teach: Heb. whet, or, sharpen}
Deuteronomy 6:6-7

Introduction

The family is a foundational place for teaching and passing faith in God to new generations.

Reflection

From the beginning, God established the family as a place where His teachings could be known, practiced, and passed on. The Bible instructs parents to diligently teach God’s commands to their children, showing that spiritual formation begins in the home. Faith should not be merely a personal practice, but a reality shared with those God has placed near us. A home where God is at the center can become a place where children learn about His love, principles, and faithfulness. Spiritual teaching does not happen only through words, but also through daily example, decisions, and the way we face life’s different circumstances. When a family walks with God, each generation can know and experience His presence.

Practical application

Reflect today on the spiritual influence you are having within your family and consider how you can help others know God more.

Prayer

Beloved Father, thank You because You allow me to belong to a family where I can share Your love and truth. Help me be an example of faith to those around me and pass on Your teachings with love and patience. May my home be a place where Your name is honored and where future generations can know and trust You. Give me wisdom to teach, humility to learn, and a heart committed to guiding my family toward Your presence. Amen.

For reflection
Am I helping my family grow in faith, or am I allowing other influences to occupy the place that belongs to God?
