Living in Recognition of Who Christ Is

Identity in Christ · 5 min read

He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
Matthew 16:15-16

Introduction

The way we answer the question of who Jesus is determines the way we live our faith.

Reflection

Jesus asked a question that remains one of the most important questions in life: “Who do you say that I am?” It was not merely a question seeking an opinion, but an invitation to recognize His true identity. Many people know information about Jesus, know His teachings, or have heard His stories, but true faith begins when we personally recognize who He is. Peter declared that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of the living God, and that confession transformed the way he followed Him. When we understand that Jesus is the Savior, Lord, and eternal King, our relationship with Him stops being superficial. We no longer follow Him only for what He can do for us, but because we recognize that He deserves first place in our lives. Christ’s identity determines our identity as His followers.

Practical application

Read Matthew 16:13-17 and personally answer the same question Jesus asked His disciples: who is He to you?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, help me know You more deeply and not remain with only a superficial idea of who You are. Open my eyes to recognize Your greatness, authority, and love. May my faith be founded on the truth that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. May recognizing who You are transform my decisions, priorities, and the way I live each day. Amen.

For reflection
Who is Jesus truly to me: only someone I seek in moments of need, or the Lord who governs my entire life?
