The parable of the speck and the plank teaches us to examine our own hearts before judging or correcting others.
In this teaching, Jesus spoke of a person who noticed a small speck in their brother’s eye but failed to recognize the plank in their own. Through this image, Jesus taught the importance of humility and spiritual self-examination. He does not call us to ignore sin or the struggles of others, but to approach them with transformed hearts and awareness of our own needs before God. It is often easier to point out the faults of others than to allow the Lord to work in our own areas of growth. A humble heart recognizes its own weaknesses and seeks to help others with love, grace, and truth.
Reflect today on the way you view others and consider whether you are allowing God to transform your own heart first.
Beloved Father, thank You because Your love corrects me and helps me grow. Teach me to look first at my own heart before judging others. Remove pride, criticism, and lack of compassion from me. Give me humility to acknowledge my mistakes and wisdom to help others in love. May my life reflect the grace and mercy I have received from You. Amen.
