Renewed by God’s Mercy

Renewal · 5 min read

Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
Titus 3:5

Introduction

Spiritual transformation begins with God’s mercy, which restores us not because of our merit, but because of His grace.

Reflection

The Bible reminds us that our salvation and transformation do not arise from our ability to correct ourselves, but from God’s mercy working in our lives. Many times, we think we must first change in order to draw near to God, but the gospel reveals the opposite: God drew near to us while we still needed to be restored. His mercy not only forgives our past, but also begins a new work within us through the Holy Spirit. This renewal changes the way we think, our desires, and the way we live. We are not transformed because we manage to become good enough, but because God pours out His grace upon us and enables us to live a new reality. Remembering God’s mercy keeps us humble and grateful because every step of spiritual growth is evidence of His love working within us.

Practical application

Remember an area in which God showed mercy in your life and thank Him for the work He continues doing within you.

Prayer

Beloved Father, thank You because Your mercy reached me when I could not change through my own strength. Thank You because You not only forgave me, but also began a work of renewal in my heart. Help me depend on Your grace each day and remember that my transformation is the fruit of Your love. May my life be a response of gratitude for the mercy You have shown me. Amen.

For reflection
Am I trusting in my own efforts to change, or am I resting in God’s transforming mercy?
