Growing in Christ

Life in Christ · 5 min read

As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, {so} walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
Colossians 2:6-7

Introduction

The Christian life is an ongoing process in which God shapes us to grow in our relationship with Christ and increasingly reflect His character.

Reflection

Just as a plant needs time, care, and deep roots to grow, our spiritual life also requires remaining firmly connected to Christ. Many times, we expect immediate change, but God works within us through a continual process of transformation. Growing in Christ means knowing Him more, trusting Him more, and allowing His Word to shape the way we think and act. Spiritual maturity is not measured only by how much we know, but by how much our character resembles Jesus. The disciples walked with Christ for years and still had much to learn, but they remained close to Him and were transformed. In the same way, God uses every experience, teaching, and challenge to strengthen our faith. Growing in Christ means moving forward each day, not seeking perfection through our own strength, but depending on the grace of the One who began the work within us.

Practical application

Identify an area of your spiritual life in which you want to grow and ask God to help you move forward in that process.

Prayer

Beloved Father, thank You because Your purpose is not to leave me unchanged, but to transform me so I become more like Christ. Help me grow in my faith, go deeper into Your Word, and remain steadfast when the process is difficult. Remove spiritual complacency from me and awaken a continual desire to know You more. May my life reflect more of the character, love, and humility of Jesus each day. Amen.

For reflection
Am I truly growing in Christ, or am I merely maintaining a superficial relationship with Him?
