Prayers for Times of Day

Prayers for times of times of day, each one accompanied by a Bible verse.

Morning Prayer

Psalms 5:3 — “My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct {my prayer} unto thee, and will look up.”
Heavenly Father, as I begin this new day, I come before You with a grateful heart. Thank You for the gift of life, for the rest of the night, and for this new opportunity to walk under Your grace. Before I face the responsibilities, challenges, and decisions of this day, I want to seek Your presence. You know every situation I will encounter, every conversation I will have, and every need that will arise. Nothing that happens today will ever take Your plans by surprise. Lord, guide my steps from the very first hours of the morning. May my thoughts be aligned with Your truth, my words reflect Your love, and my actions honor Your name. Help me walk with wisdom and discernment in every moment. When difficulties arise, remind me that You are my strength. When opportunities come, help me recognize them. When worries appear, teach me to trust in You rather than in my own strength. Father, may Your favor go with me throughout this day. May I be a blessing to those around me and a reflection of Your love wherever I go. Today I place this entire day into Your hands, trusting that You will direct every one of my steps. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Night Prayer

Psalms 63:6-7 — “When I remember thee upon my bed, {and} meditate on thee in the {night} watches.”
Loving Father, as night falls, I want to pause before You and thank You for Your faithfulness throughout this day. Thank You for every blessing I have received, for every protection You gave me, and for every expression of Your love, even in the things I may not have noticed. Lord, as this day comes to an end, I bring before You everything that is in my heart: my joys, my worries, the decisions still before me, and the burdens I am still trying to carry. I do not want to go to bed holding on to what You have invited me to place in Your hands. Forgive me for my mistakes, for the times I did not live according to Your will, and for the moments I forgot to depend on You. Thank You because Your mercy is abundant and I always find grace when I come into Your presence. As I rest tonight, guard my mind from anxiety, my thoughts from fear, and my heart from every worry. May I sleep in the security of Your care, knowing that You are watching over me and over those I love. Father, restore my strength, renew my spirit, and prepare me for a new day. May my final thought before I fall asleep be a remembrance of Your love and Your faithfulness. Thank You because I can rest peacefully, knowing that You are always watching over me. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Prayer Upon Waking

Lamentations 3:22-23 — “{It is of} the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.”
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of a new day. Thank You because while I slept, You watched over me, protected my life, and allowed me to wake once again under Your grace. Lord, before I begin my day, I want to acknowledge that I need You. I need Your wisdom to make decisions, Your strength to face challenges, and Your peace to walk with confidence and serenity. Today I place before You every conversation, every responsibility, and every opportunity I will have. Guide my steps so that everything I do reflects Your love and Your truth. Help me begin this day with gratitude instead of worry. May my first thought be a reminder of Your faithfulness, and may my first confidence be placed in You. Father, open my eyes to recognize Your blessings, even in the smallest things. Allow me to be a source of encouragement to those around me and a reflection of Your love wherever I go. Thank You because Your mercies are new every morning, and because Your presence will be with me throughout this entire day. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Prayer Before Sleep

Psalms 4:8 — “I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.”
Loving Father, as this day comes to an end, I want to pause for a moment to thank You. Thank You for every blessing I received, for every protection You gave me, and for every opportunity You allowed me to experience. Lord, today I place all my worries before You. The things I could not resolve, the conversations that remain unfinished, the decisions that lie ahead, and every burden that still occupies my mind. I do not want to take these worries with me to bed; I want to leave them in Your hands. Forgive me for my mistakes and for the times I failed to reflect Your will as I should have. Thank You because Your grace is sufficient and because I always find mercy in Your presence. As I rest tonight, guard my mind and my heart. Keep all anxiety, fear, and worry far from me. May my sleep be peaceful and restorative. Father, thank You because while I rest, You continue to work. Thank You because I can close my eyes with the confidence that I am safe in Your care. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Prayer to Begin the Day with God

Mark 1:35 — “And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.”
Heavenly Father, before I immerse myself in the responsibilities, concerns, and activities of this day, I want to seek Your presence. Just as Jesus set aside time to be with You, today I desire to begin this day by placing my heart before You. Lord, do not let busyness, obligations, or distractions take the place that belongs to You alone. Help me remember that the greatest need in my life is not to solve problems or achieve goals, but to walk with You. Fill me with Your peace before I face any challenge. Fill me with Your wisdom before I make any decision. Fill me with Your love before I interact with the people I will meet today. May Your Word enlighten my mind, and may Your Spirit guide my steps. Help me recognize Your presence in the simple moments of the day and keep my heart connected to You even in the midst of my responsibilities. Father, today I want to live with the awareness that I do not walk alone. You go before me, beside me, and behind me. May every thought, word, and action bring glory to Your name. Thank You for allowing me to begin this day with You. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Prayer to Sleep in Peace

Isaiah 26:3 — “Thou wilt keep {him} in perfect peace, {whose} mind {is} stayed {on thee}: because he trusteth in thee. {perfect...: Heb. peace, peace} {mind: or, thought, or, imagination}”
Loving Father, as night falls and this day comes to an end, I come to You to find rest. You know everything that happened today—the joys I experienced, the worries I faced, and the burdens that still remain in my heart. Lord, help me place into Your hands everything that is beyond my control. I do not want to go to bed carrying fears about tomorrow or worries over situations that are outside my reach. Quiet my mind when my thoughts refuse to slow down. Calm my heart when anxiety tries to steal my peace. Remind me that You are still in control and that nothing is beyond Your loving care. Father, fill this room with Your peace. May Your presence surround me, and may I rest with the confidence that I am safe in Your hands. While I sleep, restore my physical, emotional, and spiritual strength. Allow me to wake renewed, strengthened, and grateful for the new day You will graciously give me. Thank You because Your peace is greater than any worry, and because I can rest completely in You. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Prayer at the Start of the Week

Psalms 90:17 — “And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.”
Heavenly Father, as I begin this new week, I place before You each day that lies ahead. You know the responsibilities I will face, the opportunities that will arise, and the challenges I have not yet seen. Lord, guide my steps throughout this week. May my decisions be directed by Your wisdom, and may my actions reflect Your love. Help me not to live driven by busyness or consumed by worry, but by the confidence that You are at work in every detail. Bless the work of my hands, the conversations I will have, and the people I will meet. Allow me to be an instrument of encouragement, hope, and blessing to everyone around me. When I face difficulties, give me strength. When I encounter opportunities, give me discernment. When I face uncertainty, grant me Your peace. Father, may this week be more than just a series of activities. May it be an opportunity to walk more closely with You and to see Your hand at work in my life. Thank You because You are already present in every day that is to come. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Prayer to End the Day

Psalms 92:1-2 — “[A Psalm {or} Song for the sabbath day.] {It is a} good {thing} to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High:”
Loving Father, as this day comes to an end, I want to pause for a moment to look back and recognize Your faithfulness. Thank You for being with me from the moment I woke up until this very moment as I prepare to rest. Thank You for the blessings I received, for the doors You opened, for the people You placed in my path, and even for the difficulties that helped me grow and depend more deeply on You. Lord, if there were moments when I failed, I ask for Your forgiveness. If I spoke words I should not have said or displayed attitudes that did not reflect Your love, help me learn from them and grow. Today I place into Your hands everything that remains unfinished. I do not want to carry unnecessary worries or allow the stress of the day to continue weighing on my heart. Father, thank You because You have been good to me. Thank You because Your faithfulness does not depend on my circumstances, and because Your love remains constant. As this day comes to a close, I want to rest in the assurance that You continue to watch over me and those I love. In Jesus' name, Amen.
