Prayers for Trials

Prayers for times of trials, each one accompanied by a Bible verse.

Prayer in Grief

Psalms 34:18 — “The LORD {is} nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. {unto...: Heb. to the broken of heart} {of a contrite...: Heb. contrite of spirit}”
Merciful Father, today I come before You with a heart deeply wounded by the loss I am going through. There is an emptiness that words cannot describe and a pain that feels too great to bear. Lord, You know every tear I have shed and every thought that has crossed my mind. You know how much I miss this person and how deeply I wish I could hear their voice again, share one more moment with them, or hold them one more time. In the midst of this sorrow, I ask You to sustain me. When my strength fails, be my strength. When grief overwhelms me, be my comfort. When my questions have no answers, be my peace. Help me remember that You are still present even in the midst of suffering. Your love remains when everything seems uncertain, and Your arms continue to hold my life. Father, heal the wounds of my heart little by little. Help me remember the moments we shared with gratitude and find hope in Your eternal promises. Thank You because even in the darkest valleys, You walk beside us. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Prayer in the Midst of Trial

James 1:2-3 — “My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; {temptations: or, trials}”
Heavenly Father, today I find myself going through a trial that has tested my strength, my emotions, and my faith. There are moments when I do not understand why I am facing this situation or how long it will last. Even so, Lord, I choose to come to You because I know that even in the midst of difficulties, You remain good, faithful, and worthy of my trust. Help me not to focus only on the problem, but also on the work You are doing within me. May this trial strengthen my character, deepen my faith, and teach me to depend more fully on You. When I grow weary, renew my strength. When I feel like giving up, remind me of Your promises. When fear tries to take hold of my heart, help me remember that You are still in control. Father, even though I do not understand everything that is happening, I choose to trust in You. I know that Your plans are good and that You can use even the most difficult circumstances to accomplish Your purposes. Thank You because You never abandon me and because You walk with me every step of this journey. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Prayer in Times of Crisis

2 Chronicles 20:12 — “O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes {are} upon thee.”
Heavenly Father, today I find myself in the midst of a situation that seems greater than my own strength. There is uncertainty, pressure, and questions for which I cannot find answers. My resources are limited, and many times I feel unsure of what my next step should be. Yet, Lord, just as Jehoshaphat lifted his eyes to You in the middle of an impossible crisis, today I also lift my eyes to You. I acknowledge that I need Your help, Your guidance, and Your intervention. Father, when everything around me seems unstable, help me remember that You remain steadfast and unchanging. When the news is discouraging, help me hold firmly to Your promises. When fear tries to take hold of my heart, remind me that You are still seated on Your throne. Give me wisdom to act rightly, peace to wait on You, and strength to keep moving forward one day at a time. May this crisis not destroy my faith, but strengthen it and teach me to depend on You more deeply. Thank You because no situation is too difficult for You, and because even in the midst of life's storms, You remain my safe refuge. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Prayer When I Find No Answers

Deuteronomy 29:29 — “The secret {things belong} unto the LORD our God: but those {things which are} revealed {belong} unto us and to our children for ever, that {we} may do all the words of this law.”
Heavenly Father, today I find myself facing questions I cannot answer. There are situations I do not understand, paths that seem unclear, and circumstances that leave me with more doubts than certainty. Lord, I acknowledge that I often want to understand everything. I want to know why certain things happen, why some prayers seem to take so long to be answered, and why some paths lead in unexpected directions. But today I choose to rest in the truth that You see far more than I ever could. Though my understanding is limited, Your wisdom is perfect. Though I cannot fully understand the present, You already know the future. Help me trust You even when I do not have all the answers. May my faith not depend on understanding every detail, but on knowing Your character and Your faithfulness. Father, teach me to walk by faith and not merely by understanding. May I rest in the confidence that You are still guiding my life even when the path seems uncertain. Thank You because I can trust in a God who never makes mistakes and whose plans are always better than my own. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Prayer to Wait on God

Psalms 27:14 — “Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.”
Heavenly Father, I confess that waiting is not always easy. So often I long for immediate answers, quick solutions, and open doors at the very moment I think they should come. Yet You call me to trust in Your timing rather than in my own desires. Today I ask You to teach me to wait with faith, patience, and hope. When the waiting feels long, strengthen my heart. When the silence seems endless, help me remember that You are still at work even when I cannot see it. When doubts arise, remind me of the many times You have been faithful in the past. Father, do not allow this season of waiting to produce bitterness or despair in my life. Instead, let it produce maturity, trust, and a deeper dependence on You. Help me make the most of this season by growing spiritually, knowing You more deeply, and learning to rest in Your will. Thank You because Your timing is perfect and You are never late. Today I choose to wait on You with confidence. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Prayer After a Loss

Job 1:21 — “And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.”
Loving Father, today my heart is marked by loss. There is an emptiness I did not expect, a sorrow that weighs deeply upon me, and a sadness that has become part of my days. Lord, You know exactly what I have lost and what it means to me. You know how deeply it hurts and how difficult it is for me to move forward at this moment. I do not come before You pretending that I am okay. I come honestly, bringing my tears, my questions, and my pain. Thank You because I can come to You just as I am, and because You never reject a broken heart. Father, walk with me through this journey of healing. Help me grieve without losing hope. May this sorrow not draw me away from You, but lead me into a deeper experience of Your love. Give me the strength to move forward one day at a time. Help me remember the blessings I have received and find gratitude even in the midst of sadness. Thank You because Your presence remains when everything else seems to change, and because Your arms continue to hold me through this difficult season. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Prayer to Start Over

Isaiah 43:19 — “Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, {and} rivers in the desert.”
Heavenly Father, today I stand before a new beginning. Perhaps I am leaving behind mistakes, failures, wounds, or difficult chapters of my life. The road ahead may fill me with uncertainty, yet it also gives me hope. Thank You because You are the God of new beginnings. Thank You because You do not define me by my mistakes, my failures, or my falls. Your grace allows me to rise again and move forward into the purpose You have for my life. Lord, help me let go of everything I need to leave behind. Heal the wounds that still affect my heart, and free my mind from guilt, fear, and the weight of the past. Open my eyes to see the opportunities You have prepared before me. Give me the courage to move forward, the wisdom to make the right decisions, and the faith to believe that You still have good plans for my life. Father, write a new story in me. May this new beginning be marked by Your presence, Your guidance, and Your favor. May every step I take bring me closer to Your purpose. Thank You because Your mercies are new every morning, and because there is always hope for those who trust in You. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Prayer in Times of Uncertainty

Jeremiah 29:11 — “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. {expected...: Heb. end and expectation}”
Heavenly Father, today I find myself walking through a season where I cannot clearly see the future. There are unanswered questions, decisions still to be made, and situations that seem beyond my control. So often I wish I had certainty, that I knew what lies ahead, and that I could see exactly how everything will turn out. Yet, Lord, even though I do not know tomorrow, You do. Before this day ever began, You had already seen every detail of my journey. Before my worries arose, You had already prepared Your answer. Help me not to live under the weight of uncertainty. When anxiety tries to fill my mind, remind me of Your promises. When fear seeks to control my decisions, remind me that You are still faithful. Father, teach me to trust in Your character more than in my circumstances. May I rest in the confidence that Your plans are good, even when I cannot yet fully understand them. Guide my steps one at a time. Give me peace to live fully in the present without being trapped by fear of the future. May my heart remain steadfast, knowing that my life is secure in Your hands. Thank You because You never lose control, and because Your purposes are always perfect. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Prayer for a Miracle

Jeremiah 32:27 — “Behold, I {am} the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?”
Almighty Father, today I come before You with a need that seems impossible in human eyes. I am facing a situation that is beyond my abilities, my resources, and my strength. I have reached a place where only You can make a way. Lord, You are the God of miracles. The same God who parted the sea, fed the multitudes, healed the sick, and raised the dead. Your power has not diminished, and Your arm has not grown weak. Today I place this need before You. You know it better than anyone. You know how much I have prayed, how long I have waited, and how deeply I long to see Your intervention. Father, if it is Your will, work in an extraordinary way. Open doors where none exist, bring healing where it seems impossible, restore what has been broken, and reveal Your glory in the midst of this situation. But I also ask You for something even more important: may my faith remain steadfast regardless of the outcome. May I trust in Your love even when Your answers are different from my expectations. Thank You because nothing is impossible for You, and because I can rest in Your power and in Your perfect will. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Prayer When I Feel God Is Far Away

Psalms 139:7-10 — “Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?”
Loving Father, today I come before You with honesty. There are times when I clearly sense Your presence, but there are also seasons when You seem distant and my prayers appear to go unanswered. Lord, even when my emotions make me feel alone, help me remember the truth of Your Word. You have promised that You will never leave me nor forsake me. Your presence does not depend on how I feel, but on Your everlasting faithfulness. When I do not understand what You are doing, help me keep trusting You. When Your silence confuses me, help me keep seeking You. When my heart grows discouraged, remind me that You are still at work even when I cannot see it. Father, renew my faith and my desire to draw near to You. Open my eyes to recognize the ways You have been present even in the moments when I thought I was alone. Thank You because Your love remains constant and You never stop caring for Your children. Today I choose to trust in Your presence beyond my emotions. In Jesus' name, Amen.
