Christ Is Eternal God

5 min read
John 8:58

Jesus did not come only as a man; He is the eternal God who existed before all things.

Reflection

The identity of Christ is one of the deepest truths of the Christian faith. Jesus walked among us, experienced hunger, weariness, and pain, yet His humanity did not diminish His divinity. In His own words, He affirmed an existence before Abraham, revealing that He was not merely part of history, but the eternal Lord who entered our history. This truth completely changes the way we approach Jesus. We do not follow only an admirable teacher or a spiritual leader, but the eternal God who chose to draw near in order to save us. From creation to redemption, Christ was present, fulfilling the Father’s perfect purpose. When we recognize who Jesus is, our worship gains a different depth because we understand that the One who loves us is also worthy of all honor and glory.

Practical application

Read John 1:1-14 and meditate on the greatness of Christ as the eternal God who drew near to us.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, help me contemplate Your greatness and recognize that You are far more than someone who helps me in my needs. You are the eternal God who came to seek me in love. Increase my reverence, faith, and worship toward You. May I never diminish who You are, but may my life respond with gratitude and surrender to the eternal Lord who loved and saved me. Amen.

To reflect on

Am I recognizing Jesus in all His greatness as eternal God, or do I see Him only in terms of what He can do for me?
