Crucifying the Flesh Every Day

5 min read
Galatians 5:24

Following Christ involves daily renouncing the desires that draw us away from God and allowing Him to govern our lives.

Reflection

The Bible teaches that those who belong to Christ have crucified the flesh, an image representing a deep decision to leave behind the former way of living. This does not mean we stop facing desires or temptations, but that we are no longer obligated to obey them as before. The Christian life requires continual surrender in which we recognize that our will must be submitted to God. Crucifying the flesh each day means rejecting what feeds sin and choosing what strengthens our relationship with the Lord. It is a work in which we actively participate, but one that depends on the power of the Holy Spirit transforming our inner lives. When we surrender our desires to God, we find a freedom greater than any temporary satisfaction sin can offer.

Practical application

Reflect today on which desires you need to surrender to God and allow Christ to govern every area of your life.

Prayer

Beloved Father, thank You because in Christ You have given me new life and freedom from the power of sin. Help me crucify each day what draws me away from You and surrender my desires under Your will. Forgive me for the times I have allowed the flesh to govern my decisions. Strengthen my spirit, guide me through Your Holy Spirit, and form the character of Christ within me. May my life reflect complete surrender to You. Amen.

To reflect on

What areas of my life still need to be surrendered to God so I can live under Christ’s rule?
