The Call to Be a Disciple

Calling · 5 min read

And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
Luke 14:27

Introduction

God calls us to be disciples of Christ, following His teachings and allowing Him to completely transform our lives.

Reflection

Being a disciple of Jesus means much more than believing in Him; it involves a daily decision to follow His steps, learn from His teachings, and allow His character to be formed within us. Jesus called His followers to take up their cross and walk with Him, showing that discipleship requires commitment, surrender, and perseverance. A disciple does not merely hear God’s Word, but puts it into practice and seeks to reflect Christ in every area of life. This process requires continual growth, humility to learn, and willingness to change what is not aligned with God’s will. The call to discipleship is an invitation to live in a deep relationship with Jesus and allow Him to be the center of our identity, decisions, and purpose.

Practical application

Reflect today on your relationship with Christ and consider whether you are living as a disciple who learns, obeys, and follows His ways each day.

Prayer

Beloved Father, thank You because You have called me to follow Christ and become part of Your family. Help me live as a true disciple, not merely hearing Your Word, but applying it in daily life. Teach me to follow Your ways, grow in faith, and allow Jesus to transform my character. Remove everything that keeps me from surrendering my life completely to You. May every decision I make reflect my desire to follow You and glorify Your name. Amen.

For reflection
Am I truly following Christ as a disciple, or am I only seeking to know about Him without allowing Him to transform my life?
