Following Christ requires daily surrender in which we learn to submit our will to God and allow Him to transform our hearts.
Jesus’ teaching about taking up the cross each day reveals that discipleship is not merely a decision from the past, but an ongoing commitment to walk with Him. Dying to self means no longer placing our own desires, plans, and priorities at the center of life, but allowing God to hold first place. This does not mean losing our identity, but discovering the true purpose for which we were created. Human nature constantly seeks to control and direct its own path, but Jesus invites us to trust that God’s plans are better than ours. Each day, we have opportunities to choose between living under the guidance of our ego and surrendering our decisions to the Lord. Personal surrender is a process in which God forms our character, teaches us humility, and helps us reflect Christ’s love. When we allow Him to govern our lives, we discover deeper freedom and a closer relationship with our Creator.
Reflect today on the areas in which you are still trying to maintain control and surrender them to the Lord, trusting that His plans are better.
Beloved Father, thank You because Jesus showed us the true path of a life surrendered to You. Help me submit my plans, desires, and decisions to Your will. Forgive me for the times I have wanted to direct my life according to my own ways without seeking Your guidance. Form within me a humble heart, willing to obey and follow You each day. Teach me to depend more on You and allow my life to reflect Christ’s character at all times. Amen.
