God does not seek only our outward actions; He desires a heart that loves Him completely and finds its greatest treasure in Him.
Love for God is at the center of a true spiritual life. Jesus taught that the greatest commandment does not consist merely of following rules, but of loving God with our whole being. This love involves our hearts, thoughts, emotions, and decisions. Many times, we can fall into a relationship with God based only on obligations, but the Lord desires a relationship marked by trust, surrender, and fellowship. A heart that loves God begins to order its priorities around Him because what we love determines the direction of our lives. This love does not arise only from our effort, but as a response to the love God first showed by drawing near to us through Christ. When we understand His grace, obedience stops being a burden and becomes an expression of love.
Examine what place God occupies in your priorities and ask Him to increase your love for Him.
Beloved Father, thank You because You loved me first and allowed me to know You through Christ. Help me love You not only with words, but with my whole heart, thoughts, and actions. Remove what occupies the place only You deserve and teach me to find my greatest satisfaction in Your presence. May my life be a continual response to Your love. Amen.
