Christ’s mission does not end when a person believes in Him; the calling is to walk with them so they may grow and follow in His steps.
The Great Commission includes two inseparable aspects: proclaiming the gospel and making disciples. Many times, we may focus only on seeing people make a decision of faith, but Jesus called us to something deeper: helping them grow in a continual relationship with Him. A disciple is not merely someone who believes in Christ, but someone who learns from Him, obeys His teachings, and allows their life to be transformed. Jesus invested time in His disciples, walked with them, answered their questions, corrected their mistakes, and prepared them to continue the mission. This model teaches us that making disciples requires companionship, patience, and love. Spiritual transformation is a process, and God uses willing people to strengthen the faith of others. The church is not only called to receive new believers, but to help them grow until they also become people who can spiritually influence others. When we make disciples, we participate in a chain of faith that continues carrying Christ’s message from generation to generation.
Look for someone you can accompany, encourage, or help grow in their relationship with Christ.
Beloved Father, thank You because You allowed me to know Christ and become part of Your family. Help me understand that my calling does not end with receiving Your grace, but also includes sharing it and helping others grow. Give me patience, love, and wisdom to accompany those who need their faith strengthened. Teach me to follow Jesus’ example, who invested His life in making disciples. May I be an instrument through whom others know You more, grow spiritually, and also participate in Your mission. Amen.
